Fana de jet-ski - Fan of jet-skiing

Et un jour de plus passé à la plage. Au programme : baignade, bronzage, lecture et jet-ski. Matthieu et moi avons fait une superbe balade en jet-ski avec toujours de la vitesse et beaucoup, beaucoup de virages. Que d'émotions fortes...
Demain, nous envisageons d'aller passer la journée à Monaco.

Another day spent at the beach. On the program: swimming, sunbathing, reading and jet-skiing. Matthieu and I had a great ride with much speed as always and lots and lots of turns. It was full of strong emotions...

Tomorrow, we are planning on spending the day in Monaco.

Journée bien remplie - Full day

J'ai eu un emploi du temps bien rempli aujourd'hui: vélo, course à pied et natation en piscine ce matin. Promenade en bateau du Lavandou (photo) vers les îles du Levant et de Port-Cros (photo) et baignade à Cavalière (photo) l'après-midi.

I had a day full of activities today: biking, running and swimming in the pool in the morning. Boat ride from the Lavandou (picture) to the islands of Levant and Port-Cros (picture) and swimming in the sea at Cavalière (picture) in the afternoon.

Où suis-je? Where am I?

Mon mari et moi passons nos vacances dans le sud-est de la France. J'ai grandi à la Valette du Var (carte), une ville d' environ 22 000 habitants. Mes parents y résident toujours mais plus pour très longtemps puisqu'ils quitteront le sud-est pour le sud-ouest avant la fin de l'année. C'est donc mon dernier été dans la maison de mon enfance. La Valette du Var se situe au pied du mont Coudon (photo), une magnifique colline au sommet rocheux et remplie de pins et de chênes. C'est un endroit convoité par les sangliers...

La Valette du Var a pour ville voisine Toulon (carte) qui a 168 000 habitants. Comme je l'ai dit auparavant, Toulon est célèbre pour sa rade et son port militaire.

Pendant les vacances, je passe beaucoup de temps à la piscine et à la plage. Ma plage préférée est celle de l'Almanarre (photo). Elle se situe dans la ville de Hyères (carte). Il y a beacoup de planches à voile et de sky surf (photo) sur cette plage grâce au vent Mistral qui souffle vers le sud de la vallée du Rhône.

My husband and I are spending our vacation in the southeast of France. I grew up in La Valette du Var (map), a town with 22.000 inhabitants. My parents still live there but not for much longer since they will leave the southeast for the southwest before the end of the year. It is therefore my last summer in the house of my childhood. La Valette du Var is at the foot of the mount Coudon (picture), a magnificient little mountain with a rocky top and full of pine and oak trees. It is also a place well admired by wildhoags.

La Valette du Var has Toulon (map) as a neighboring town. Toulon has 168.000 inhabitants. Like I said before, Toulon is famous for its bay and its military port.

During my vacation, I spend much time at the pool and at the beach. My favorite beach is l'Almanarre (picture). It is located in the town of Hyères (map). There are a lot of windsurfing and sky surf (picture) on this beach thanks to the Mistral wind which blows towards the south from the Rhône valley.

Quelle journée! Mon frère m'a emmenée faire une balade sur son jet ski. Nous sommes partis de Hyères, une ville à l'est de Toulon et nous sommes allés jusqu'à l'île de Porquerolles. Nous avons fait en moyenne du 45 km/h et par moment nous avons pu pousser le jet ski à 80 km/h. Tout dépendait de la mer et du vent. La balade a été fantastique et pour une fois, mon frère n'a pas réussi à me faire tomber du jet ski. Malheureusement, j'avais oublié mon appareil numérique. J'en prendrai la prochaince fois. En attendant, voici des photos trouvées sur Internet de l'île de Porquerolles pour vous donner une idée à quoi elle ressemble.

Info: A l'inverse des Etats-Unis, vous devez avoir un permis bateau afin de pouvoir conduire un jet ski en France. Un permis de conduire n'est pas suffisant.

What a day! My brother took me on a ride on his jet ski. We left from Hyères, a town to the east of Toulon, and we went to the island of Porquerolles. The average speed was about 28 miles per hour and at times we went up to 50 miles per hour. Our speed depended on the sea and the wind. The ride was fantastic et for once, my brother did not succeed in making me fall off the jet ski. Unfortunately, I had forgotten to take my camera. I will take some next time. Here are a few pictures from the Internet to give you an idea of what the island looks like.

News: Contrary to the United States, you must have a boat driver's license in order to drive a jet ski in France. A driver's license is not enough.

Le marché de Toulon - Open-air market in Toulon

Je suis bien arrivée en France le mardi 23 juin après un agréable voyage. Cela fait du bien d'être de retour dans mon pays natal.

Mercredi, nous sommes allés au marché de Toulon. Toulon a un marché tous les jours de la semaine sauf le lundi. Le marché est le meileur endroit pour trouver des produits frais et régionaux. Un marché fait vivre une ville. Les gens se baladent, regardent les étalages, goûtent les fruits et les légumes et apprécient l'odeur et la couleur de tous ces produits. Les fruits et légumes du marché coûtent moins cher que ceux du supermarché et les Français aiment faire leur marché. C'est un endroit convivial et rempli de bonnes affaires.

Après le marché, nous nous sommes promenés sur le port de Toulon. Toulon se situe entre Marseille et Nice. C'est un port militaire avec une belle rade.

Les soldes d'été ont débuté le mercredi 24 juin. Devinez où j'ai passé mon après midi... :-)

I arrived safely in France on Tuesday, June 23 after a pleasant trip. It feels good to be back in my native country.

On Wednesday, we went to the open-air market in Toulon. Toulon has an open-air market everyday except on Monday. The open-air market is the best place to find fresh and local produce. A market makes a city alive. People wander, look at the booths, taste the fruits and vegetables and appreciate the odor and the color of all the produce. The fruits and vegetables cost less than those at the supermarket, and the French love to go to the open-air market. It is a convivial place and full of good deals.

After the market, we walked on the port of Toulon. Toulon is located between Marseille and Nice. It is a military port with a beautiful bay.

On Wednesday, June 24, the summer sale started, and guess where I went in the afternoon... :-)
